A chairmanship aspirant to the office of the Chairman of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport chapter of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Mr. Bola Ashiru Balogun says his priority if he wins the coveted seat would be the welfare and professional development of all licensed customs agents at the command.
‘’I will help our members to get their operating licences, like the former President Olayiwola Shittu did for many agents. There are so many hardworking, very ambitious and honest people among us here who need a licence. I and my team will prioritise it that they get their licences from the customs. I will reach out to the customs authorities to work it out.
‘’As the chairman of MMIA chapter, I will ensure that every person who claims genuinely to be a customs agent will regularly undergo professional development trainings. We will partner with reputable institutions to arrange ASYCUDA, professional and administrative trainings for our members,’’ promised Ashiru during an interview with PortNews.
In the area job security, the contestant promised to ensure trade facilitation, constant and effective dialogue with government agencies and service providers, mediate disputes between members and clients and response to operational challenges of members.
As a welfarist, Ashiru said his administration would make welfare of members its fulcrum by instituting financial supports programme (agent moni), health and well being programme, home ownership programmes and provide sporting and relaxation facilities.
To engender peace and stability, the chairmanship aspirant promised to improve on the relationship between the Police and other security agencies in and around the port. He also added that his government will provide adequate security tools and equipment.
On health for all, Ashiru Balogun noted the straitened circumstances in which agents work considering the urgency with which aviation cargo is handled. He therefore promised to prioritise the health and wellbeing of all agents. ‘’We will conduct a regular check up free for all our members. Of course, we will provide a sick bay at convenient location, while an ambulance will be stationed strategically for agents’ use,’’ promised Bola Ashiru, who is the Chairman of Bolab Nigerian Limited and one time Vice Chairman of the chapter.
