Air freight tonnage positive in first quarter – IATA

Director General/CEO of IATA Alexandre de Juniac

Annual growth in air freight tonne kilometres (FTKs) remained robust in the three months ended April 2017, with airline heads of cargo increasingly positive about the outlook over the year ahead.
The performance, according to the latest quarterly Cargo Market Analysis of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), was achieved by airlines despite stronger global economic and trade backdrop.
“This performance continues to be set against a stronger global economic and trade backdrop.
“A combination of rising cargo yields and broadly stable fuel prices are lowering the breakeven load factor. With achieved loads continuing to recover, and freighter utilization increasing, profit margins are widening,” IATA said in the report.
