Apapa Customs Command generated N165.7 billion in six months

A total of One Hundred and Sixty Five Billion, Seven Hundred and Forty Three Million, Two Hundred and Sixty Six Thousand, One Hundred and Seven Naira and Seventy One Kobo (N165,743,266,107.71) was generated by the Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service into the federation accounts in the first half of 2017 .
The figure, according to a release by the command, represents 49.06% collection on target for the year 2017.
Comparatively, the release said, the total collection during the corresponding period – January to June 2016 – was one Hundred and Twenty Billion, Nine Hundred and Forty One Million, and Forty Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighty Five Naira only (120,967,152,918.00) which is 31.48% collection on target for the year 2016.
The profile indicated an increase in the revenue of the command by Forty Four Billion, Seven Hundred and Seventy Four Million, One Hundred and Thirteen Thousand, One Hundred and Ninety Two Naira and Seventy One Kobo (44,774,113,192.71) which represents 27.01% growth over the previous year.
According to the release, the breakdown of monthly collection is as follows: January N25,958,919,218.73, February N24,767,582,067.43, March N26,713,144,429.13, April N25,186,752,882.45, May N33,618,220,540.24 and June N29,498,646,970.73. Total collection is N165,743,266,107.71.
The release maintained that the increase was made possible by the exemplary leadership of Comptroller Musa Jibrin, Customs Area Controller working in tandem with the reform agenda of the Comptroller General of Customs Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali rtd and blocking of revenue leakages.
According to the release, the CAC had called on all officers and men of the command to desist from all activities that could impede the ease of doing business initiative of the government and enjoined all importers, agents and other stakeholders at the ports to ensure total compliance to all extant laws on cargo clearance procedures.
