Towards building a vibrant freight forwarding profession and giving voice to its members, the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarding and Logistics (APFFLON) yesterday inaugurated new executives of Apapa Port chapter, Tin can Island Port chapter, Ikorodu/Ibeshe Terminal chapter, and PTML Port chapter and restructured the executive of Murtala Mohammed International Airport Ikeja chapter.
Also, the following national executive members – Chief Bartholomew Onuoha as Vice President, Barrister Olusegun Balogun as Assistant General Secretary, Barrister Adeniyi Adebowale as Financial Secretary, Barrister Oloruntosin Otuyiga as Treasurer, Forwarder Patricia Agboje as Head of Business Development and Investment and Forwarder El-Sabyl Mavis Ogheneovie as Welfare Officer, were sworn in.
Speaking during the occasion at the national secretariat of the association in Ikeja, Lagos, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, APFFLON President, said the exercise was constitutional for the association to be effective in the discharge of its constitutional duties not only to members but towards growing freight forwarding in all ramifications in Nigeria.
President Frank Ogunojemite charged the new chapters’ leaders to live above board, come up with ideas that can grow the profession in their various ports and endeavour to carry their members along to avoid rancour.
He listed various life-enhancing schemes which APFFLON has set to boost the welfare of its members. The schemes were cooperative society, insurance scheme, housing estate and health insurance with notable hospitals.
According to Ogunojemite, “We initiated all these life-enhancing schemes to improve the welfare of our members and the profession. Our job is not a pensionable one. It is very rigorous and tasking on our health. All these schemes will take care of our members and most especially at old age. We are the first association to do all these things because we value life. We shall continue to do things different from other associations.”
