Kalmar introduces electric FLT forklift

Kalmar has introduced electric forklift with a battery forklift in the 9-18ton range making it another string to its all electric bow.
While Kalmar’s FastCharge system for straddle carriers uses a lithium battery system that is designed to be charged in short bursts during the regular duty cycle, its new electric FLT is designed for continuous operation over an 8hour shift without a break for recharging.
Peter Ivarsson, Director, Forklift Trucks at Kalmar, said “Kalmar electric forklift trucks offer the best of both worlds: the performance of a powerful diesel truck but without the accompanying air emissions, noise and vibration. The operating cost of the new 9-18 ton range is much lower than that of comparable diesel machines, and the payback time can be as short as two years.
“The forklifts have sufficient battery capacity to operate for a full eight-hour shift with lead acid batteries and are future-proofed to operate with new lithium-ion battery technology,” Kalmar stated. This is a firm sign of Kalmar’s thinking with regard to the ability of lithium-ion batteries to support a full shift of liftruck operations at this point in time.
