Liebherr Group to invest spare part facility in Nigeria

…commends Ports & Cargo’s remarkable growth

Liebherr Group, a leading cargo handling equipment manufacturer, has declared to set up a spare part facility in Nigeria and make Lagos the hub of its maritime division for West and Central Africa.

Under the new investment, Liebherr Group also planned to expand its branch in Nigeria by increasing the number of its authorized service technicians – doubling numbers of engineers and increase the amount of training for actual engineers.

Mr. Norman Herzberg, Sales Manager, Mobile Harbour Cranes and Reachstacker, Liebherr MCCtec, Rostock, Germany, made this known to PortNews in Lagos during the recent commissioning of new cargo handling equipment acquired by Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.

Among the equipment were 3 LHM 500 supplied by Liebherr. Ports & Cargo operates Terminal C of the port and is a flagship company of SIFAX Group.

According to Norman Herzberg, ‘’Leibherr has decided to make Lagos the hub of  its maritime division for all of West and Central Africa, supplying more than a hundred machines in more than 12 countries.

‘’Therefore, we will expand our branch in Nigeria by increasing the number of Liebherr authorized service technicians by investing in doubling number of engineers and increase the amount of training for actual engineers. We are planning a new spare part facility in the country.’’       

Herzberg noted that Ports & Cargo over the years has experienced remarkable growth, saying that the investment in the LHM 500 would double its cargo handling productivity.

‘’The objective of this new investment and the expectation from the three new Liebherr mobile harbor cranes is as clear as it is simple increase capacity and productivity of the handling operations of Ports & Cargo Handling Services and responding to the growing demand of its clients.

’’In order to match with extended market expectation, Ports & Cargo made a strategic decision by choosing Liebherr as the supplier for the crane.

‘’Ports & Cargo is the biggest MHC customer in West Africa to date. The seven liebherr cranes have proven to be drivers of productivity and growth. By adding another three units to the fleet, Ports & Cargo is prepared to continue its successful development also in the future,’’ said Herzberg.
