Goods worth N18,252,294,879 that violated the import procedures of the Federal Government of Nigeria between January and June 2019 have been declared seized by the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operation Unit, Ikeja, Lagos.
The Unit also stated that within the same period it collected a sum of N147,357,751.50 as revenue into the coffers of the government.
This development was contained in the mid-year performance record released by the Unit and signed by the O/C Record/Statistics, Mrs. M.C. Anozia .
According to the record, a total of 483 items which included 378 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 57 units of vehicles, 1115 cartons of frozen poultry products, 2189 pieces of used tyres, 759 cartons and 1347 sachets of tramadol capsules/870 cartons of GSK/660 cartons of various medicaments among others were seized.
The breakdown of the revenue collected according to the record is as follows: January – N10,267,868.25, February – N53,574,396.25; March – N12, 271,037.25; April – N34,803,851.75; May – N18,124,837.00 and June – N18, 315,761.00. Total is N147, 357,751.50.
