The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Kaduna State, will take delivery of new technology-driven aircraft in 2022 to boost the training of pilots and aircraft engineers in the college.

The Rector of NCAT Captain Moddibo Alkali Mahmud disclosed this in Zaria yesterday while addressing the League of Aviation and Airport Correspondents who were in the college for a week-long training.

“We have enough airplanes to train our students but we are taking delivery of new ones this year to complement the existing ones to boost training. There are some of our aircraft which are undergoing maintenance presently. All these will use Jet A1 fuel and they have modern technology. We are getting Magnum airplane brand from Hungary; it will use petrol and will be easy to manage. For safety, it has a parachute,” said Captain Moddibo Alkali Mahmud.

The Rector said NCAT as a training institution is always complying with all ICAO and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority regulations and standards by ensuring that all its certificates are renewed yearly. On the benefit of this, he said “this is an approved training college and we have been renewing our certificates yearly. We can’t train without the renewal. This has given us the opportunity to increase our training courses. It also gives us international exposure.”

Mahmud noted that the certification of the automated fire fighting simulator in the college by the NCAA and other relevant agency which is in the second stage will be finalized this year. “It will be put to use as soon as the second stage of the certification is completed,” he said.

Speaking on his priority for the college, the Rector said “we are going to conduct more training this year. And we are working assiduously to be an Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO).”

Captain Moddibo Alkali Mahmud said the major challenge of the institution is insufficient budget but the college is seeking all ways to improve revenue generation internally for it to provide facilities. He disclosed that renovation work has started on some hostels.
