The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika has stated that international flights will resume in a matter of weeks.
He disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday during the briefing by members of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 but did not mention any date, emphasizing that it will be in weeks, rather than in months for international flights to resume.
It will be recalled that International flights were suspended as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
According to him, “The continuous closure is not on purpose or punitive, it is just to ensure that we remain safe and healthy. The government is conscious of this fact and we are all aware of the adverse effect of the closure of the airport.
“We must move or fly from one point to another in order for us to remain in business but that is not the case now. So, we really want to open but we can’t open alone. PTF has set up a technical committee to come up with a state where everybody is happy to start.
The Minister had also said recently on his Twitter handle @HadiSirika, that In liaison with Health, Foreign Affairs, and PTF COVID-19, the Federal Government will announce the agreed date, regardless of the ban by Europe, UAE, etc. May be earlier than October.”
