NPA boss sympathises with Farinto over fire outbreak

The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman has sympathised with Dr. Kayode Farinto over the recent fire outbreak that destroyed his office that is located within the NPA Commercial Complex at Tin Can Island Port, Apapa Lagos.

The NPA boss, according an NPA release, expressed the sympathy when she visited the scene of the fire and promised that NPA would always give the security of lives and property in the ports a top priority and one of the cardinal thrusts of the organisation.

According to her, further steps would be taken to look into ways of safeguarding and taking drastic measures towards preventing a recurrence of these unfortunate incidents across all port locations in the country.

She said an investigative team would be set up immediately by NPA Management to look into the remote causes of the fire and come up with recommendations towards preventing a recurrence of the sad event.

In an interview with PortNews/PortNewsNigeria, Dr. Kayode Farinto, who is Managing Director of Wealthy Honey Investment Limited and National Publicity Secretary of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), said the source of fire incident could not be ascertained but fingered  an arson.

When asked the cost of property destroyed in the fire, Farinto said it was not only his cabin office that was destroyed but also a bank office under his was also affected with a lot of money burnt.

He said if he were to quantify what he suffers, it runs into several millions of naira as many vital documents and equipment were destroyed.

Farinto thanked the Managing Director of NPA for the visit and eulogized the quick response and professionalism of the NPA Fire Service Division towards combating the inferno.
