The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Mohammed Bello -Koko has appealed to customs agents to embrace dialogue in resolving all their complaints against the new Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Valuation System introduced by Nigeria Customs Service for the purpose of revenue collection.
The NPA boss made the appeal when he inspected some infrastructure projects at Tin Can Island Port last week.
He explained that any disruption in the supply chain would lead to higher costs and longer delivery times for shipments, such a situation reflects negatively on the bottom line of all players involved in port business, including government agencies.
“My appeal to our customs agents and freight forwarders is to engage the Nigeria Customs Service, rather than result to self-help or take actions that would promote port congestion and all the challenges that come with it. As the landlord and technical regulator, we will be working with sister government agencies to ensure Nigerian ports remain business-friendly and globally competitive,” said Bello –Koko.
Towards resolving all the grey areas in VIN and as well allay the fears of customs agents about the VIN, Nigeria Customs Service is meeting with importers, customs agents and other stakeholders today at its training college in Ikeja
