Prince Olayiwola Shittu

Today marks the seventieth birthday of shipping and freight forwarding collossus, Prince Olayiwola Shittu. An Igboho, Oke Ogun blue blood, Olayiwola’s page reads of travails and triumphs. Against life vicissitudes, Shittu got his tertiary certificates, worked at NPA before setting up his own company, Skelas Nigeria Limited, which has thankfully become a huge success in the Nigerian freight forwarding industry and traversing other gamuts of entrepreneurial endeavours in flying colours.

A man of immense intellectual fecundity, ANLCA’s modest strides today can be traced to unrelenting efforts of Prince Shittu and a select class of redoubtable customs agents including Dr Rafiu Ladipo, Alhaji Sanni Shittu, Alhaji Sanni Kamba, Prince Taye Oyeniyi, Ajelenje, Chief Henry Njoku, Mr Lucky Amiwero, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, Chief Oye Ariyo, to mention a few.

Prince Shittu was indeed the fulcrum around which ANLCA’s intellectual engagements gravitated. As the Chairman of ANLCA Customs Agents Relations Committee Shittu spearheaded the association at all elite functions and engagements especially with the federal government and its agencies such as the Customs, NPA, Shippers Council, NIMASA, shipping companies etc, etc. Resultantly, in the early 90s, ANLCA had become a formidable brand that was considered a major stakeholder in the Nigerian port industry by the federal government.

Shittu went on to serve ANLCA in higher offices as the Chairman Port Harcourt chapter of ANLCA, ASECO Chairman, the culmination of which was his popular emergence as the National President of ANLCA. He served for two terms leaving landmarks to be envied by all in the years to come. It is noteworthy that under Shittu’s leadership ANLCA got its own befitting secretariat for the first time in its over sixty years of existence.

It must be mentioned that Shittu was a foundation exco member of the Council for Registration of Freight Forwarders. He helped steady the ship of the quasi-government body.

Prince is a joy to be with. You will not fail to acknowledge his rich intellectual and oratorical gifts which he garbs with measured humility and good-naturedness, a rarity in most upwardly mobile or affluent people these days.

We thank God Almighty that Prince Olayiwola Shittu is bubbling with good health as he marks 70 today. PortNews is happy that Prince Shittu is a fulfilled man whom God has blessed to be a blessing to others. Many many happy returns.
