Some gunmen suspected to be sea pirates, who have been terrorizing waterways of Bayelsa State struck again yesterday, killing two policemen at the riverine town of Ogbia, in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.
The identities of those killed could not be carried out immediately, an Assistant Superintendent of Police was also injured in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The heavily armed pirates who were operating in two speed boats were said to have launched the attack from two fronts on a police gunboat that anchored at the Ogbia waterfront.
PortNewsNigeria gathered that they also went away with two 200 horse Power engines on the gunboats belonging to the Nigerian Police after the attack.
Lyodd Sese, Chairman of the Bayelsa state chapter of the Nigeria Maritime Workers Union who confirmed the incident says the gunmen stormed the area at about 10pm last night and operate till about 1:30 this morning.
Police authorities are yet to confirm the latest attack as violent crimes have increased in the region since the beginning of 2018 as political activities get underway.
