UNN Lagos Alumni hosts Awards Night

The 2017 Annual Dinner/Awards Ceremony of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association, Lagos Branch, will honor outstanding old students who have distinguished themselves in various endeavors over the years.

The ceremony which will come up at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday 9th December, 2017 will host eminent citizens including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi as the Royal Father of the Day while the Chairman of the Occasion is Mr. Tunde Lemo, one time Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and an old student of UNN. The Guest Speaker is Mr Uche Ogar, the Chief Executive Officer of Masters Energy Group.

According to Chief Mike Okoye, President of UNN Alumni Lagos, the Annual Dinner/Awards Ceremony serves as a platform through which a massive network of graduates of UNN and their friends meet to share ideas, experiences and proffer solutions for the uplift and advancement of their Alma Mata  and Nigeria as a whole.

He said further that the occasion will serve an avenue to recognize and appreciate business leaders, company executives, professionals and eminent icons that have excelled in their chosen fields of endeavors. “But you must note that the ceremony is always preceded yearly by a Road Walk which had come up on October 14th. We walked from Admiralty Round About, Lekki Phase 1 to Access Bank Headquarters at Idejo Street in Victoria Island and the turnout was encouraging.”

Four categories of awards will be available to be carted home, they include Diamond Award which is given to qualified eminent Lions and Lionesses who have demonstrated outstanding, exceptional and remarkable success in their chosen fields of careers over at least three decades. Mr Fola Ayeni, the co-founder of Tantalizers PLC, is among those penciled down for this award. Another recipient of the Diamond Award is the first indigenous Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria, Mr Supo Oshadiya.

The Distinguished Eminent Lion Award is given to qualified eminent Lions and Lionesses who have excelled in their careers over twenty years and Dr Uche Ogar of Masters Energy Group will receive the award in December.

The other category of award is The Dignity of Man Award which is given to Eminent Lions and Lionesses who have triumphed in their chosen fields of career; Mr Chimezie Emewulu, the CEO of Seamix Nigeria Limited, is among the recipients.

Chief Mike Okoye, a renowned licensed customs agent, is also the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Export to the National President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), told PortNewsNigeria that licensed customs agents have improved in capacity building with a considerable percentage now IT-compliant and he attributed this positive development to the good leadership provided by the present ANLCA administration led by Prince Olayiwola Shittu.

“Agents are well positioned in the industry now, respected because of the vibrant leadership of Prince Olayiwola Shittu, our President. He is not only a national leader, an orator, a sound mind, but a humorist. He eases tensions with simple jokes. President Shittu is a very organized man and selfless. We will remain grateful for the secretariat he built for ANLCA,” said Okoye.
