Airport Customs handovers seized currency to EFCC

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Muritala Mohammed Airport Command, Ikeja, has declared that it has handed over $50 million seized at the airport to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
The Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Jayne Shoboiki in the half year performance report of the command, saying that the Federal Government’s currency policy requires any persons travelling out of the country with amount money more than $10,000 (or the equivalent in another currency) to declare it on Customs Currency Declaration Form (CDF).
Shoboiki also said that the policy had made the command recorded a total of 6,035 declarants of various currencies in between January and June 2019. She noted that the command has seized and detained contrabands with a duty paid worth of N382.22 million.
Comptroller Shoboiki listed some items within that period to include 1,002 pieces of Air Force berets, 289mPKGS of different makes of drones, 272 pieces of two way walkie-talkie radio and one 152 PKGS of camouflage inner vest, combat shorts, and camouflage polo shirt with no evidence of End User Certificate (EUC)
Other items that were seized are 150 PKGS of camouflage peak caps, 100 pieces of trackers, 79 pairs of camouflage footwear, fifty nine 59 cartons of tramadol, 43 bags of donkey’s skin, 43 PKGS of desert camouflage combat shorts, 27 PKGS of complete set of camouflage uniforms, safety belts , rope and seven PKGS of pangolin scales.
Shoboiki reiterated that “Notable among the seizures are hard drugs (cocaine) imported from Pakistan, concealed in two cartons declared as household items in NAHCO. Some drugs suspected to be American cannabis concealed in baby doll handed over to Nation Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
“ The revenue collected from January to June 2019 represents 112.4 per cent , thereby surpassing the set revenue targetfor the first half of 2019 with N3.21 billion and that of 2018 half year with N6.39 billion.” she said
