FG directs Awolowo’s Committee to booster Nigeria’s interest in AfCFTA

The Federal Government has directed the Secretary, National Action Committee on Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement, AfCFTA, Mr. Olusegun Awolowo, to provide direction to the Committee on the AfCFTA for effective coordination of relevant stakeholders towards the attainment of Nigeria’s strategic national interest.

This was made known by Femi Adesina, the Spokesman of President Muhammad Buhari, while announcing the appointment of Awolowo by President Muhammad Buhari as the Secretary of the Committee in Abuja on Tuesday.

The appointment of Awolowo took effect from December 19, 2022. Awolowo will serve a tenure of four years.

According to Adesina, “As Secretary, Awolowo is expected to provide direction to the National Action Committee on the AfCFTA for effective coordination of relevant stakeholders towards the attainment of Nigeria’s strategic national interest.”

Awolowo has served as the Special Assistant to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

He was recently the Executive Secretary and CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council from 2013 to 2022.
