Nielsen Plans to Introduce Giant 152 Tonnes Reach Stacker

Danish cargo handling equipment firm N C Nielsen plans to introduce a 152 tonnes SWL reach stacker
N C Nielsen is no stranger to heavy lifts and has supplied heavy lift Konecranes reach stackers with hook lifts for the Danish wind farm industry.

It now says its engineers have come up with the correct formula for a “truly heavy duty reachstacker,” based on a Konecranes 4545. It will have a self-weight of 110 tons, a width of 4.90m, a machine length of 15m and a maximum SWL of 152 tons under hook. The entire geometry of the machine will be reconfigured with a reinforced boom for 15.40m high lifts, increased counterweight, larger lifting cylinders, 2m high decks and a set-back undercarriage to reduce the lost load centre.

“Most components of our new reach stacker have been enlarged. It takes numerous calculations, trial assemblies and tests to succeed,” says technical manager Per Nielsen. “However, after a very exciting development process, our engineers managed to find the formula for our new reach stacker.”

The product is aimed at shipping companies, supply bases, port terminals and wind turbine producers.
The biggest reach stackers yet in existence are the 155 ton SWL VRS-K machines from CES.
