Reps commend ENL terminal management

Members of House of Representatives Committee on Ports & Harbour have praised the patriotic fervour of the management of ENL Consortium Limited as exemplified in massive modern infrastructure investments outlays in their terminals at Berths C&D of the Lagos Port Complex in Apapa, Lagos.

The Committee, led by its Chairman, Hon Datti Garba Mohammed, arrived the terminal on a working visit on Tuesday 5^th November and were conducted around the terminal by the Executive Director of Operations Mr. Mark Walsh, who told them that ENL terminal had keyed into the Federal Government policy of Ease of Doing Business by providing modern port facilities and cargo handling equipment to quicken ship and cargo turn-around time. “As you can see we have in place functional equipment and good infrastructure to ensure that our clients are well catered for. We are compliant with the 48-hour cargo handling policy of the government,” explained Walsh as he conducted his august visitors around the terminal.

Walsh, a veteran port and cargo administrator however expressed his grievances which include the poor state of port access roads which he said was a bane to ship and cargo time management. Relatedly, he also mentioned the disturbing phenomenon of water-front security threats by water bandits which is on the increase in recent time. He posited that a quick passage of the National Transport Policy Bill by the national assembly will address these operational hiccups.

“We plead with your honour to expedite actions on the Transport Industry Bills in the hope that their implementation will address these problems and give us a better port industry”, Walsh submitted.

In his reply, Hon. Garba Datti Mohammed commended ENL management for improving operational standards not only with the acquisition of a galaxy of sophisticated cargo handlers and port equipment but an engagement of top class manpower. He promised that the Committee would consider all the complaints and recommend for appropriate actions.
