The Ndigboamaka Progressive Markets Association (NPMA) has rued the negative impacts of unstable Forex on the economy and called on the Federal Government to design a fiscal policy that will address the problem and strengthen the economy.
The new NPMA President, Comrade Chinedu Ukatu made this call in Lagos on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the unveiling of the new leadership of the association recently elected and the enlightenment of the populace about the activities of the association.
Comrade Chinedu Ukatu said the aim of the body is to protect the interests of the traders and support policy of government that facilitates trade and moreso support any political and public figures in and out of government who can protect our interests.
The Ngboamaka thanked the Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu for the support of his government to the the association and its members. Ukatu said “We want to reiterate that this organisation’s main objective is to protect the interest of the traders and support any policy of Government that facilitates trade and moreso support any individual or government that protects our interests.
“May we use this opportunity to thank the Lagos state Govt ably led by our dear Executive Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu for his support and cordial working relationship.”
Ukatu noted that the association has thrown its full weight behind the nomination of Honourable Benjamin Kalu, a member of the House of Representatives, as deputy speaker since the position has been zoned to the South East by the ruling APC party.
Ukatu noted the association is deeply interested in the peace, prosperity and progress of the nation and commended dissatisfied politicians for embracing legal means to ventilate the dissatisfaction.
“At this juncture, we want to lend our voice to the state of nation going forward. The General elections have come and gone, there are winners and losers but in all Nigeria wins. We are pleased that those who are dissatisfied with the process have approached the court for redress as stipulated by the constitution and we are happy with that rather than resort to anarchy and violence. This is highly commendable, we therefore call on politicians to eschew all forms of violence and intimidation that heat up the polity. We also call on the winners to allow those dissatisfied with the process to lawfully express it at the law courts and avoid any pre judicial comments and because its every one’s right to seek redress lawfully,” said Ukatu.
Also Speaking, the Secretary of the association, Chief Anthony Okeke said the association would continue to act as a pressure group to protect its interests under the framework of the constitution and would continue to work with the Lagos State government towards building a virile society for all Nigerians to live.
The association held its election on 4th of May 2023 to elect a new executive that would pilot the affairs of its affairs for the next four years.
